DVD Writers
Our range of external DVD writers offers great value for money for anyone making a purchase for a home computer. We have a range of desktop DVD drives, as well as slimline models. All DVD writers need mains power, including the slimline models as the available 'bus' power supplied by the USB port is insufficient to power both the motor and the laser of the DVD. However, a battery pack is available to supply additional power to the slimline model.
USB & Firewire Interfaces
Storage Depot's DVD writers have a choice of USB2.0 and/or FireWire interfaces. Please check that your computer has the relevant interface to ensure compatibility. If selecting a USB2.0 DVD writer, be sure to check that your computer has USB2.0 support as USB1 is too slow to burn DVDs.
Region Encoded Drives
All of our DVD drives are region encoded, which means that you can play a DVD movie on the drive from a different region just four times before the region is permanently set. These writers are an extremely cost effective way of storing and archiving your data. If you are serious about safeguarding your data, then such a device is a must.
Versatile DVD Writers
Current DVD models are very versatile, capable of reading and writing just about any type of DVD disk. This makes selecting a DVD writer a simple task as you do not have to concern yourself about the varying standards.
Dual Layer Disks
DVD disks last a long time (around 20 to 30 years) so are ideal for long term archives of your digital data. DVD disks offer a safe storage medium for photos, videos and data. Standard capacity disks can store around 4.7GB. Dual Layer disks can store 8.5GB, but it may be more cost effective to buy single layer disks as many can be bought for the price of one dual layer disk.
The future of DVD drives is very exciting, with 'Blu-Ray' devices capable of storing up to 50GBs of data now available.
