SATA to USB/FireWire enclosure (Pluscom)
The Pluscom SATA to USB2.0/FireWire enclosure is an external disk drive caddy that accepts 3.5" SATA hard drives. The enclosure can be connected to a computer via the USB2.0 or FireWire 400 ports.
FireWire and USB2.0
The 3.5” SATA Combo enclosure is one of the few external hard drive enclosures that supports both FireWire and USB2.0. Generally, enclosures with FireWire support only PATA (IDE) hard disks. The external USB and FireWire hard drive works on both Windows and Apple Mac computers..
Very easy to install
The Pluscom SATA-Combo drive enclosure is very easy to install. The drive caddy is assembled with thumb screws, which allow for easy assembly. No computer experience is necessary to assemble these units, and there are no settings on the hard disk drive, making installation a very simple task.
Once the hard drive is installed, simply connect the power to the disk case, and connect the enclosure to the computer via USB or FireWire, and that’s it! If you are using a new hard drive, the only extra task is to format the hard drive.
And finally, please read this!
Before you buy your hard drive enclosure, please check the following:
Is your hard drive a SATA hard drive, or IDE? IDE is also referred to as ATA or PATA. You can find this out by enterning the part number of your hard drive into a search engine. Look at the specifications of the hard drive.
The next thing you need to check is the physical size. Again, in the technical specifications, it will tell you if the drive is a 2.5" or 3.5" hard drive. We refer to 2.5" hard drives as 'Mobile' and the 3.5" hard drives as 'Desktop'. Sometimes we refer to both, for expample a Mobile 2.5" hard drive case. 3.5" hard drive do in fact measure just short of 4 inches (a weird quirk!)
If you are still unsure of the interface or size, please contact us. Send us an email with the model number of the hard drive. We would prefer if you contact us before ordering the wrong product, as it is much easier to supply you the right product the first time! And we're more than happy to help. Thank you.
