2 Bay Hard Drive Enclosure with USB2.0/FW400&FW800
The Stardom ST3620 is a professional external dual bay data storage unit. It can accept two SATA hard drives of any capacity.
Featuring USB2.0, a FireWire 400 and two FireWire 800 ports, the ST3620 can connect to just about any computer. Its tiny size allows it to sit tidily on your desk, belying the fact that you could have up to 1500GB of data in one tiny elegant package!
The ST3620 can be set up in two modes:
1. JBOD (Just a bunch of disks). This allows the two disks to act as one big storage area. So if you have 2 x 500GB hard drives, you would ‘see’ roughly one big TeraByte disk.
2. RAID 0. This setting is called ‘striping', and means that data is written onto both disks at the same time. This setting is usually used where speed is critical, and you need to get the fastest performance out of the unit possible.
The ST3620 uses an Oxford 924DS chip for FireWire transfer. The internal hard drives can be SATA 150 or SATA 300, ensuring that data transfer is blisteringly fast.
Because the hard drives in the ST3620 are in removable caddies, if you run out of disk space, you can replace the hard drives with new ones later down the line. In effect then, you can have a limitless storage capacity. You just keep adding hard drives when you need more space. Both hard drives would have to be replaced at the same time though.
The dual bay unit has a system auto-detector designed for temperature and fan status and warning via a purple LED light. Hot-swap design under JBOD mode, where if the hard disk fails you can replace the hard disk online without shutting down the system.
