Stardom RAID SL3620-2S-LB2
The stylish SL3620-2S-LB2 is a dual bay, aluminium NAS enclosure which supports both RAID 0 and RAID 1. The great looking NAS device supports SATA hard drives internally. It has a Gigabit LAN port which connects to the network and enables you to set up a data share or expand the storage capacity of your network in an instant.
Go on a RAID
The SL3620-2S-LB2 NAS Drive supports RAID 1, whereby your hard disks are mirrored. This provided superb data protection. Should one hard drive fail, you simply remove the hard drive from the NAS, replace it with a new one, and let the SL3620 rebuilt the RAID set for you.
Stripe, (don't strip)
RAID 0 is also supported. RAID 0 is called Striping. This is where both disks are added together to provide one big disk. Typically, striping is very fast, as the data is written to both hard disks at the same time. However, should one drive fail, all data is lost. So striping should be used only for 'current' work, not for data backup.
USB2.0 and Ethernet
A neat feature of the SL3620-2S-LB2 is that in addition to the Ethernet port, it also supports USB 2.0. This enables you to connect the NAS to a PC for quick file copy, or to get the data off the NAS directly onto a computer. This is a great way of reducing network traffic. And because the SL3620 is so small, its easy to carry between offices.
The NAS is connected to the network via DHCP, which greatly simplifies the setup. DHCP is a process whereby the network assigns a free IP address to the NAS.
Share everything
The SL3620-2S-LB2 can be set up as a file server to enable sharing of data and music files. No matter what kind of operating system you have, the NAS can support iTunes (AAC, MP3, WAV) and the BT file download from the internet.
User shares and also user privacy can be set up via the embedded management program.
The SL3620 NAS drive is very well built with a sturdy aluminium case. It is equipped with low RPM cooling fan to avoid the overheating.
All in all, this is a excellent, low cost, external NAS enclosure. It can accommodate any capacity SATA hard drive. It is very easy to set up and use. Highly recommended!
