The CS-407e CubeStation is a 4 bay Gigabit Ethernet NAS device, suitable for data sharing, backup and storage. If offers many powerful, useful features, and does away with the need of an expensive file server.

Low cost server

The low cost of SATA hard disk drives has revolutionised the market in data storage. Just a year or so ago, something as powerful as the CS-407e would have been out of reach of small companies. However, the combination of low cost hard drives and powerful, affordable NAS devices such as this, open up the market in a useful, practical way.

The 4 bay Synology NAS Server is an 8-in-1 storage device. It acts as a 1. a file server, 2. a print server, 3. a Download redirector. It is a 4. multimedia server, via UPnP, its an 5. iTunes server, a 6. a PhotoStation. 7. Backup server

Easy to use RAID

The unit has RAID functionality, which means that, because you have more than two hard disks, you can protect your data. You can either mirror your hard drives, or use 'RAID5' which needs at least three hard drives, and spreads the data across each hard drive. Should one hard drive fail, you can rebuild it from the other two disks.

Essentially, any NAS device is a file server. It allows central access to shared data from a large number of computers. This is very useful if you regularly use common files, photos or even things like music. Instead of duplicating the data on each computer, you can store it on the CubeStation, and everyone can have access to it. You can of course restrict the access, so that different interest groups or departments only have access to their data.

You can connect a variety of USB printers to the CubeStation, creating a central print server.

The Download re-director functional is a very useful tool when you download a lot of files via programs like Bittorrent or FTP, you simply drag them into the console and leave them to download onto the CubeStation. No need to leave your computer switched on. You can do a few files at once as well, using the Download manager.

The CubeStation CS-407e allows you to play and view music, videos and pictures via UPnP. These can be streamed via a UpnP digital media adapter, to your TV or radio. This essentially means that you can listen to music on via your radio, or watch movies or look at pictures on your TV, which are stored on your CubeStation. Imagine having 1 or 2TB of movies, music and pictures on tap?

Itunes server

– this lets you listen to iTunes on the CubeStation via a networked PC.

PhotoStation :

lets you easily share your pictures on the web without any complicated setting up. No need to subscribe to photo sites. And, you can have a huge number of photos viewable to all or just a select few.

Backup Server :

The CS-407e comes with backup software so that you can protect all your computers.

Website hosting.

The CubeStation can host your website. It supports SQL and Php.

The CubeStation is supplied without hard drives. We can supply hard drives upon request. Please email or call for prices. Alternatively, the unit can use any capacity SATA hard drive up to 750GB currently.

The installation is easy and setting up the raid system is very simple if you want to do it yourself. Any mildly competent person can add disks and set the system up themselves.
