The 5 bay Synology DS508 can be seen here with a rear shot. Dual Gigabit eithernet ports are visible. The Synology DS508 has 5 hard drive bays. Each hard drive resides in a removable caddy. If a hard drive fails, then the caddy can be removed, and re-inserted into the slot, and the RAID rebuilt. The Synology DS508 is a very well made, very well thought out external drive. With many features, few NAS products even come close. However, the Synology DS508 is not the cheapest NAS available, but we feel that in this instance you really get what you pay for.
