Removable Bay
The products in the removable bay range offer an interesting alternative for storing masses of data. The idea behind these units is that the hard drive is housed in a removable bay or 'caddy'. The caddy can be inserted and removed from the housing, which is connected to the computer via a USB2.0, eSATA, or the FireWire port.
Interchangeable Caddy Devices
When the disk capacity is used up, simply buy another hard disk and an inexpensive caddy. The benefit of this system is that you only have one external device attached to your computer, with access to an unlimited number of hard disks.
Some of the Removable Bay systems can be interchanged, for example, the caddy of the iTank unit fits the 2 bay ST3620 / SR3610. The U6 removable bay unit can accept both SATA and PATA (IDE) hard drives, simply by changing the caddy.
Drive Purchasing Options
The removable bay units are supplied with various combinations of connection to Windows-based PCs, Apple Macs and Linux computers. The options include USB2.0 + FireWire, eSATA + USB2.0, and USB2.0 + FireWire 'B'. Our units can be purchased including a hard drive, or the removable bay and caddy combination can be purchased without a hard drive so that you can fit your own drive.
