3.5" Combo (FireWire/USB2.0) Enclosure
The SD Combo Desktop Enclosure is an enclosure with both a FireWire and a USB2.0 interface that enables you to create your own external hard drive solution. It is very easy to assemble, and accepts any capacity hard drive. The aluminium case is rugged, and good looking.
Self build
We supply the case, you supply the hard drive. Put them together and what have you got? A versatile external hard drive with twin connections. You can plug your drive into a PC or Mac computer. FireWire or USB2.0 (USB1.1 too), and it is fast enough for just about any job. You control the size of the internal hard disk, so if you need loads of storage space, buy a big hard drive to put inside.
Simple Installation
Installation, even for non-technical people, is straightforward, and you can save a lot of money by recycling your old hard drives. You need not restrict yourself to old hard drives – you can buy a new high capacity IDE hard drive and insert it in the case, saving a lot of money over buying a pre-configured unit.
Worldwide Operation
The external power supply is ‘auto-switching’ which means it can be used worldwide.
Dimensions: 220mm x 115mm x 35mm
Everything required is included in the package (except of course the hard drive), like a 6-6 pin FireWire cable, USB cable, power supply, fitting screws etc.
And finally, please read this!
Before you buy your hard drive enclosure, please check the following:
Is your hard drive a SATA hard drive, or IDE? IDE is also referred to as ATA or PATA. You can find this out by enterning the part number of your hard drive into a search engine. Look at the specifications of the hard drive.
The next thing you need to check is the physical size. Again, in the technical specifications, it will tell you if the drive is a 2.5" or 3.5" hard drive. We refer to 2.5" hard drives as 'Mobile' and the 3.5" hard drives as 'Desktop'. Sometimes we refer to both, for expample a Mobile 2.5" hard drive case. 3.5" hard drive do in fact measure just short of 4 inches (a weird quirk!)
If you are still unsure of the interface or size, please contact us. Send us an email with the model number of the hard drive. We would prefer if you contact us before ordering the wrong product, as it is much easier to supply you the right product the first time! And we're more than happy to help. Thank you.
