Edimax nMax Wireless 802.11n USB Adapter

This USB adapter gives you wireless access, with less dead spots. You get further coverage with the latest wireless security features. The EW-7718Un complies with 802.11n draft 2.0 standards. It is the next generation of wireless products. With the advanced MIMO* technology, it can support the data transmission rate 6 times more (up to 300Mbps) and the coverage 3 times more than IEEE 802.11b/g devices. The EW-7718Un has stable wireless connections and the high bandwidth lets you enjoy the network applications without any interruption. The EW-7718Un supports WPS configuration function. This function provides easy procedures to set up wireless security. Use the Edimax configuration tool to setup the WPS function. The Web Processing Service (WPS) is designed to standardize the way that GIS calculations are made available to the Internet. WPS can describe any calculation (i.e. process) including all of its inputs and outputs, and trigger its execution as a Web Service. The EW-7718Un has an easy-to-install USB2.0 interface - a very common expansion slot or 'socket' of desktop or laptop computers - even if you are an inexperienced computer user you can get this wireless network card installed on your computer in just few minutes!

Features of the WiFi USB 2 adapter:
The EW-7718Un complies with 802.11n Draft 2.0, 802.11g and 802.11b Standards.
It provides further coverage, less dead spot and higher throughput (Up to 300Mbps) with MIMO* technology.
Supports Wireless Multimedia Extensions (WMM), WMM-PS and WMM-SA (IEEE 802.11e QoS standard).
Supports 64/128-bit Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP)**, Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA and WPA2)***, (TKIP with IEEE 802.1x), WPA2 (AES with IEEE 802.1x) for high security level.
Supports Wireless Distribution System (WPS) configuration. A Wireless Distribution System is a system that enables the wireless interconnection of access points in an IEEE 802.11 network. It allows a wireless network to be expanded using multiple access points without the need for a wired backbone to link them, as is traditionally required. The notable advantage of WDS over other solutions is that it preserves the MAC**** addresses of client packets across links between access points.
Supports operating system: Windows 2000/XP/XP64/Vista.
Supports USB 2.0/1.1 interface.
Portable and mini-size design.

* Multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) is a set of advanced MIMO technology that exploits the multiple user degree of freedom, whereas (single-user) MIMO makes good use of the multiple antenna degree of freedom. A widely known scheme of MU-MIMO is Space-division multiple access (SDMA) that allows a station to transmit (or receive) signal to, or from multiple users in a same band and time, simultaneously.

**Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) is an algorithm to secure IEEE 802.11 wireless networks. Wireless networks broadcast messages using radio, so are more susceptible to eavesdropping than wired networks. When introduced in 1999, WEP was intended to provide confidentiality comparable to that of a traditional wired network.

***Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA and WPA2) is a class of systems to secure wireless (Wi-Fi) computer networks. It was created in response to several serious weaknesses researchers had found in the previous system, Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP). WPA implements the majority of the IEEE 802.11i standard, and was intended as an intermediate measure to take the place of WEP while 802.11i was prepared. WPA is specifically designed to also work with pre-WPA wireless network interface cards (through firmware upgrades [1]), but not necessarily with first generation wireless access points. WPA2 implements the full standard, but will not work with some older network cards.

****A MAC address in computer networking, is a Media Access Control address (MAC address) or Ethernet Hardware Address (EHA) or hardware address or adapter address is a quasi-unique identifier attached to most network adapters (NICs). It is a number that acts like a name for a particular network adapter, so, for example, the network cards (or built-in network adapters) in two different computers will have different names, or MAC addresses, as would an Ethernet adapter and a wireless adapter in the same computer, and as would multiple network cards in a router. However, it is possible to change the MAC address on most of today's hardware, often referred to as MAC spoofing.
