USB, Firewire & SATA Cards
If you have your sights on a new peripheral, such as a digital video recorder, iPod or an external hard drive, but find that your computer does not have the right connection, do not despair. At Storage Depot we stock a selection of upgrade cards suitable for most computers. These will enable you to add 'support' for whatever peripheral you desire.
CardBus & ExpressCards
Adding USB2.0, FireWire (400 or 800) or SATA to your computer is extremely simple. If you have a laptop computer, simply purchase the relevant CardBus card and put it into the CardBus (also known as PCMCIA) slot on your notebook. A new type of card, called an ExpressCard, has evolved to take advantage of the very high data transfer rate that SATA offers. Similar to a CardBus card, the Express simply slots into your notebook (be sure to check that you have an ExpressCard slot before you purchase one).
Desktop Computer Support
Adding USB2.0, FireWire or SATA support to your desktop computer, involves slightly more work than adding an ExpressCard or CardBus card, it is still a fairly straightforward process. Simply open your computer, identify the white PCI slot, unscrew the blanking plate at the back of the PC and slot your upgrade card into the PCI slot. This action is very easy to do (even for a novice) so don't be afraid to do so. The PCI card can only go in one way and no software drivers are required if you use a current operating system.
Mac users should purchase CardBus and PCI cards which are supported by Apple Computers.
