Unsecured Pen Drive Threat
Sandisk, one of the worlds leaving flash card, and also suppliers of USB Pen drives, (USB Flash Drives) have recently a survey stating that over three quarters of American IT workers use USB memory sticks for work, and most IT bosses have no idea about the danger they face as a result of this type of usage.
Sandisk wants to remind IT management to be scared over the threat the USB pen drives can pose.
SanDisk's numbers came from a commissioned phone survey conducted in the US in March 2008 by the research company Applied Research West.
About 77 per cent of surveyed employees use flash drives at work. When corporate IT leaders were asked to estimate the number of employees they thought used personalised flash drives, they said only 35 per cent.
Storage Depots advice: Don't be scared! Use this survey as a positive opportunity to embrace encryption, encrypted hard drive and a biometric pen drives. You should review the security strategy of your company and help employees take an active part in protecting data. After all, the government leads the way in showing us how not to protect data. Do you really want to do worse?
